Welcome to the History Subject Guide, it is meant to help you through any history research projects you may have. The resources listed here are simply suggestions for places to get started, it is by no means exhaustive. Use the tabs across the top to find resources in specific areas of history or by type of source (i.e. books, articles, etc.).
If you get stuck, please use the email me button to contact me, I'm here to help.
Not sure where to start? Try OneSearch! It searches the library catalog, databases, as well as some freely available sites, somewhat like Google. This does mean a large number of results, sometimes 100,000's, but it can lead to different, diverse materials--even primary sources! Try it and use the limiters on the left hand side of the screen.
Special Collections contains numerous diverse collections including WCU libraries’ collection of rare books; various 18th and 19th century horticultural and botanical works from the libraries of William Darlington and the Chester County Cabinet of Natural Sciences; the West Chester University Archives and several other archival and manuscript collections.
West Chester University’s Digital Collections contains scanned or photographed images and PDFs of unique objects held in Francis Harvey Green Library’s Special Collections and Archives or in the Philip’s Autograph Library. The aim of these collections is to increase access and to promote the preservation of the fragile and highly used items in the collections. The Digital Collections are continually growing as more objects and materials are discovered and digitized.
